The Argon are a subgroup of the Human race that reside within the X Universe. They descend from Terran colonists that survived the Terraformer War.
History[]
Origins[]
The Argon Federation was founded by Terrans that survived the Terraformer War, which ravaged most of their colonies and nearly wiped them out.
Many of the first Terran colonists outside of Sol were killed during the Terraformer War, but a large group of them managed to survive the metal tide and ended up stranded in the newly-formed X Universe. The largest group of colonists, 20,000 survivors coming from the world of Taurus in Alpha Centauri were led to a new home by Nathan Ridley Gunne, the highest-ranking USC officer that remained outside of Sol. That place was Four, the fourth planet of the Sonra system, in which Gunne's Sapporo and the USC First Fleet's flagship, the USCSS Dragonfyre had crashlanded in the aftermath of the battle of Sol.
Uniting the remaining Terran colonies under his banner, Nathan led them to victory against the Terraformers, eventually driving them out of their new home by 2170. Later that same year, the colonial government accepted that they had permanently lost contact with Earth. As a result, against Nathan and many Terrans' wishes, they decided to suppress any knowledge of their origins and started a new civilization, marking the year they made that decision as the new Year Zero of the New Time. in 2184/14 NT, the government abandoned Taurus and made Four the capital of their new Confederation. Four was renamed as "Argun" in 2241/71 NT, which was later modified into "Argun Prime" to note its capital status. Over the years, due to vocal shift, "Argun" morphed into "Argon", and the humans that lived in that world adopted that name as their own. As such, their new country became known as the Argon Confederation.
Early Years[]
Early Argon history was marked by frantic rebuilding and development, to ensure no foe could crush them like the Terraformers once did. The Argon were immensely paranoid of what lied in unexplored territory due to their past history. This came to a head when they first met the Paranid, who were initially classified as "Xenomorphs". Both races went on a years-long cold war in which both sides kept total radio silence, until in 2300/130 NT they finally made official contact and formed trade agreements with each other.
Things remained calm until 2330/160 NT, when pilots on the Confederation's outer borders made contact with an entirely different group of Xenomorphs, which were later known as "Xenon". The encounters with the Xenon became increasingly common and in 2380/210 NT, they began to attack Argon ships. By 2384/214 NT, the Argon military had realized that these new enemies were in fact the evolved descendants of the Terraformers, when they received information from a ship that survived a Xenon attack.
Xenon Conflict[]
The worst was yet to come, however. In 2385/215 NT, the Xenon launched a massive assault on the Argon sector of Nathan's Retreat, home to the spaceport Antigone, the largest manmade station in history up to that point. The machines' capital ships struck one of the station's docking bays, which caused a chain reaction that completely destroyed Antigone, killing thousands in the process. The Xenon also attacked one of the evacuation ships the hospital ship AP Springbird, which led to it crashing on Sandwell, killing everyone onboard including Nyana Gunne.
In response, the Confederation declared war on the Xenon, which officially started the Xenon Conflict. The Argon asked their Paranid allies for help, but by 2390/220 NT the Pontifex Maximus Paranidia of the time rejected their pleas, which severely damaged both factions' relationship. The Argon were left stuck on a losing battle with a savage tide of Xenon for over 30 years, during which some of the Argon colonies seceded from the Confederation, like Aldrin (who formed the Free State of Solara). Eventually in 2411/241 NT, the Confederation was able to renegotiate a new deal with the colonies, signing a covenant that reunified them, forming the Argon Federation.
United once again, the Argon faced the Xenon head on, beginning to turn the tide of the war by 2425/255 NT through daring victories. By 2460/290 NT, the Argon defeated the Xenon and forced them out of most of their surviving sectors, bringing an end to the Conflict. Alas, the Xenon retained a presence in the ruins of several sectors in the Federation's eastern border, and a few like Morning Star disappeared outright, having been disconnected from the network.
Contact with the Boron[]
Aware that the Xenon would again try to wipe them out, the Argon began sending expeditions deeper into the gate network in 2470/300 NT, in hopes of finding their main base of operations.
Culture[]
The Argon Federation is a parliamentary democracy led by a prime minister. This position was held by Frann Herron during the events of X2: The Threat and X3: Reunion.
The Argon are part of the Guild of Founders, along with their allies, the Queendom of Boron. Although currently at peace with the Godrealm of the Paranid, the Split Patriarchy and Teladi Company, some political issues between the Paranid usually cause small skirmishes on borders.
With the reconnection of Earth to the gate network, it is hoped that Kyle Brennan will be able to bridge the gap between the two cultures and open up political talks, military assistance and trade.
Argon worlds are mostly comparable to Earth. They range from the planet Sandwell (a desert world) to Omicron Lyrae (an Earth-like world).
